Cozy hanging chair for relaxing do it yourself

There are a lot of models of egg-shaped chairs. They differ in design, features of the case, color, but all of them are united by the following features:

  • Beneficial effect on the psyche. Peace, a sense of protection and the ability to relax as much as possible will help to cope with depression, stressful conditions, increased irritability, insomnia,
  • Comfort Whatever position you take, it will be convenient for you,
  • Uniform, smooth wiggle. Spring suspension minimizes sudden jerks, shocks and other unpleasant sensations,
  • The feeling of flying. Fulfill your childhood dream by purchasing a soaring chair,
  • Beautiful appearance. Such furniture is pretty easy to fit into most existing styles,
  • A lot of light inside. This contributes to the openwork wicker frame. The feeling of confined, confined space disappears. Suitable for reading
  • Children will like it. Little mischievous people will be delighted with such a swing. You can not be afraid for them. Impossible to get hurt
  • Swing can be carried out in any direction. In an arc, forward / backward, right / left. The degree of mobility of the chair is very high.

Types of Egg Hanging Chair Models

The whole huge range of egg hanging chairs can be divided into 2 categories:

  • Ceiling mount. This type requires full confidence that the ceiling will withstand the additional load of your weight. This model is not suitable for houses of old construction. Drilling a hole for a special hook will be required. If there is a cavity inside the ceiling, it must be filled with any composition with cementing properties. This will not only help to effectively mount the suspension, but also strengthen the installation site. The chair itself is suspended only after the composition and masking plaster have completely dried. Suspension is made using a strong chain linking the seat and the hook. The chair completely loses mobility. Its transfer is meaningless and is accompanied by a huge number of difficulties. So carefully choose a place before hanging,
  • Tripod. In this case, the suspension is made to a special curved stand. It is equipped with a base in the form of a wide ring and a hook in the upper part. The suspension is quite short. Very often the chain is replaced or supplemented by a special spring. This model of rocking has a high level of reliability, very stable. The effect of soaring above the floor is fully preserved. Easy to carry. It can be installed on the street.

Frame - production materials

The housing can be made of the following types of materials:

  • Vine. Popular, affordable material with high strength. Flexible, it allows you to create even very complex weaving patterns. It looks light, almost weightless. This is due to the small thickness of the willow twigs. Not particularly picky about care,
  • Natural rattan. The material is undeniably beautiful. The large length of the branches allows you to weave the entire frame with one or two joints. This provides resistance to deformation. For braiding, bark taken from the same rattan is usually used. The material is very demanding on the level of humidity. It reacts negatively to drying out, but also does not like dampness. Regularly have to update the varnish,
  • Artificial rattan. Take all the virtues of the natural, removing all its "vagaries." At the same time, add several times increased strength, richer color gamut and longer service life. As a result, the characteristics of this material will be obtained. No wonder it costs more than natural. It can be used in street conditions. Not afraid of moisture, neutral to the sun,
  • Polymer or acrylic cord. Durable artificial material that allows you to effectively simulate a natural braid. Undemanding to conditions, unpretentious in leaving,
  • Braided wire. Metal wire of various diameters is covered with a glossy rubberized sheath or coated paper braid. Further, this material is weaving in the selected manner. Very beautiful material with a characteristic sheen. High level of strength, reliability.

Upholstery

As such, the concept of upholstery in wicker patterns is missing. The use of textiles comes down to equipping the cocoon with a soft seat. Here he needs a close-fitting. It’s good to choose from:

  • Gunny. It can be linen, cotton. This is a 100% natural fabric with a large, pronounced texture of weaving threads. Remarkably ventilated, absorbs moisture, resistant to fading. The fabric is dense, does not stretch. The disadvantages are unpretentious color, some roughness,
  • Jacquard. Wonderful fabric with a double-sided silk pattern on a matte basis. The pattern has a bulge effect. Outstanding performance. Additional special impregnation will give the material the ability to repel all types of contaminants, water and withstand animal claws (stretchguard),
  • Microfiber. Delicate material. When touched, it looks like a short-haired trimmed fur. Moreover, it has high strength, does not cause allergies. But it’s difficult to take care of him,
  • Micro velveteen. A modern version of velveteen. Two-way pile. It is carried out in 3 options. Smooth, with a small vertical rib or embossed small pattern (part of the pile is crumpled). Soft, but very durable. Resistant to fading. It tolerates frequent washing,
  • Flock. Tactile-friendly material with nylon fleecy coating. Durable, but afraid of all aggressive cleaning products. Exclude even those that contain alcohols. This will provoke a detachment of the pile. Poor flock will "bald" from contact with the body,
  • Alcantara. This material is an artificial substitute for suede. It has the same velvety surface and softness. At the same time, Alcantara is easy to clean, does not deform when wet, and is resistant to stretching. It is widely used for covering not only furniture, but also automobile interiors. Service life is average. Over time, the fabric is overwritten.
  • Cotton. Good fabric with high density. It is well ventilated, hypoallergenic. But, it is better not to use it in its pure form. Percentage dilution with synthetic fibers reduces the tendency of the material to form spools.

Appearance story

There are as many “parents” at the hanging cocoon. They are Danish Nanna Ditzel, who in the middle of the 20th century came up with a wicker chair in the shape of an egg to hang Finnish Ero Arnio from the ceiling. 20 years later, he created the inimitable transparent hanging chair "soap bubble". Further, this version of furniture was subjected to many improvements and improvements. New materials were added. Each designer contributed something different. To date, the number of original variations totals at least a dozen.

Chair "cocoon" (egg)

A distinctive feature of this modification is the 75% hidden internal space. This effect is achieved thanks to wicker walls - macrame. “Cocoon” will appeal to those who love a secluded vacation, hidden from prying eyes.

How to make a hammock chair

Making a comfortable hammock for a comfortable pastime is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. First you need to prepare the necessary parts:

  • Metal hoop with a diameter of 90 cm.
  • A piece of strong fabric 3 m long, 1.5 m wide.
  • Braid, non-woven or doubler.
  • An eight meter sling.
  • Steel ring for mounting the structure to the ceiling.
  • 4 iron buckles.
  • Sewing accessories, centimeter and scissors.

Let us dwell on the choice of a hoop. As a supporting structure, you can use the following materials:

  1. Hoops for gymnastics. Aluminum and plastic for this purpose will not work, as they will not withstand the load on the body of an adult. Only steel models can be considered. The maximum cross section of such a hoop is 16 mm, while for the manufacture of a durable product it is necessary 32 mm, which is two times larger (for a wicker chair, this figure should be 40 mm at all). However, the gymnastic ring is perfect for the children's option. A small cross section is compensated by the multilayer filler.
  2. Soft wood. Such hoops are light, but require careful processing, since moisture and heat contribute to the destruction of the tree.
  3. Water pipe made of metal. Perhaps the best option for implementing ideas. PVC is a cheap and durable material. The hoop is made by folding into a ring the cut part of the pipe. For bonding use parts made of wood or plastic.

The list of materials suitable for creating a hoop is not limited to the listed options. Everyone chooses the basis for the frame - it all depends on the imagination.

Sewing a cover

Cutting material on a hammock chair requires accuracy and care. If in doubt, it is better to leave a small supply of tissue, in the future it can be removed without problems.

The principle is this: measure seven times, cut one.

To begin with, take a 3-meter piece of fabric and cut out 2 squares from it - each 1.5 meters in length and width. Both fold 4 times. In the corner in the center we mark a circle with a diameter of 65 centimeters. We draw a line at the marked points. Cut the same circles from each square. We move away from the edge of the circle 4 centimeters and draw a dashed line.

Bend and stitch the edges

Insert and sew the hoop

We attach the slings to the hoop

Hanging chairs are a kind of swing, a cozy place for relaxation and privacy.

Macramé braided version

Photo. Hanging knitted chair. Frame - 2 round hoops.

This product consists of several circles interconnected by weaving macramé. To create such a chair you will need:

  • 2 metal-plastic rings with a cross section of 35 mm. One for the back is 1100 mm in size, the other for the seat is 700 mm.
  • A polyamide 4 mm thread 900 meters long. In the store, inquire about the option with a polypropylene base guaranteeing strong knots.
  • Slings - 12 meters.
  • 2 tight ropes for connecting hoops.

It is worth mentioning that rings with a smaller diameter are also suitable for the product, since the indicated dimensions are maximum for the chair.

It is better to buy a thread of the required length right away to avoid differences in color or quality.

  1. First you need to braid hoops. About 1 meter of thread is consumed per 1 meter of a regular pipe, which is laid in an even, dense layer. After every twenty steps, the thread is fixed by pulling and folding to the end of the final loop. Make sure that the braid is uniform and dense, as the seat and back are attached to it. Weaving a cocoon is better with gloves.
  2. Then, on the hoop itself, the net is doubled with a cord (Figure 1), securing it with a strong loop to the braid (the working scheme is “checkerboard”, flat knitting). The ends do not have to be cut, of which in the future we get fringe. The elasticity of the grid directly depends on the degree of tension of the cord. If the hoop is deformed due to tight weaving, then in the future it will be leveled due to stretched knots.

Schemes for manufacturing a hanging chair

For weaving backs any patterns are suitable. The cord is attached to the top. The work is going down. On the lower hoop, the nodes are tightened, the remnants of the threads are collected in brushes. The design requires reinforcement with 2 wide cords connecting the seat to the back. Slings are attached to the finished product - and the hanging chair takes its rightful place in the summer cottage.

Place in the interior

Designers offer the following accommodation options:

  • Living room. Buying a hanging chair for the living room is a great idea. Typically, the design of living rooms allows you to purchase a plastic rocking chair, and a cozy wicker. Everything is based on the main concept of the interior. A rattan wicker rocking chair will create comfort and help revitalize the room. The use of fluffy textile stylized as fur will add even more heat to the interior.

The egg-chair can be harmoniously fit into the interior of almost any room, from the nursery to the kitchen. It all depends on your desires and capabilities.

  • Acrylic pendant "ball" fits perfectly into a minimalistic high-tech. Rocking chair can make a bright accent, if you choose a model of a contrasting color. Against the background of a plain interior, such a detail will look very interesting.

  • Children’s. A swing chair for a nursery is a dream of many children. You can please them by spending relatively little money on the purchase of a textile hanging chair. A bright model will delight your kids without causing a lot of problems. As a rule, such chairs can be removed and washed in a washing machine.

  • Kitchen. When choosing a hanging rocking chair for the kitchen, make sure that the microclimate allows you to install such a model. If the hood does not work well and the air in your dining room is constantly dry and hot, the rattan rocker can simply dry out.

  • Another option is a plastic chair. Plastic is not the same “capricious” material and can withstand various negative influences. These rocking chairs are presented in a wide range, so finding the right option will be easy.

  • Cottage, garden furniture, terrace. Hanging can come to replace ordinary wicker country furniture. This is a very interesting way to diversify the exterior of a country house. It is important that there is an opportunity to protect the rocking chair from moisture in time (for example, bring it into the house), so be sure to choose mobile models with the ability to move.

  • Bedroom. As a rule, an egg hanging chair is used in a bedroom combined with a balcony or in a very spacious room where not only a sleeping area is located, but also a relaxation area. By placing the rocking chair by the window or in the corner, you can create a great place to relax.

  • Cabinet. In the office, a hanging rocking chair is also installed in the corner and serves as a reading place. It is important that there is enough free space around, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to be in the chair.

Tips

Below are a few useful tips for choosing a rocking chair:

  • Pay attention to how many kilograms the selected model can withstand. Manufacturers of typical rocking chairs agree on the assertion that the estimated weight is approximately 120 kilograms, but it is better to further clarify this issue. This item is more relevant if one of the future owners of this piece of furniture is a tall man or if the chair is purchased with the expectation that not only one person will sit in it at the same time.

  • Think about the microclimate of the room in which you plan to install a rocking chair. Not every material can cope with temperature changes, high humidity or too dry air. Be sure to consult the seller in a furniture store before buying, describing to him all the possible nuances of the room. This will help you make the most successful purchase and enjoy the new thing in the future, rather than shedding tears, why did the rocking chair so quickly break / lose its original appearance.

  • Before buying, be sure to read the manufacturer reviews. It happens that the furniture looks quality, but in reality everything turns out to be completely wrong. Take some time and ask what you should expect. The experience of other people here will be very useful.

  • Be sure to build on the overall design of the room when choosing a rocking chair. A hanging chair can be matched to any interior, but it looks most impressive in minimalist rooms. For design, both a wicker version and a plastic one are suitable, depending on the general concept. For example, if the interior design is focused on eco-materials, choosing a wicker egg-chair will be an excellent solution. With an emphasis on smooth surfaces and clean lines, a rocking chair in the shape of a perfectly even ball will emphasize the uniqueness of the design like nothing else.
